Mobile vs In-Shop Car Inspection: Which Is Better?
When you want a used car inspected before buying, you have two options: drive it to a shop, or have a mobile inspector come to the car. For pre-purchase inspections, mobile is almost always the better choice — and here's the honest reason why.
The problem with in-shop inspections
To get a car inspected at a shop, someone has to drive the seller's car to that shop. That sounds simple, but think it through:
- It's not your car yet — so you're asking a private seller to hand over their vehicle and drive across town, or to let you drive it, before you've bought it. Many sellers won't.
- It's a hassle that kills deals. In a fast-moving used-car market, the extra coordination means you can lose the car while you're arranging logistics.
- A dealer can simply say no to letting their car leave the lot.
The inspection itself might be fine — but getting the car to it is the real obstacle.
